- Collect real opt-ins onlyNever import purchased lists—the fastest way to wreck your reputation.
- Re-engage or sunset the dormantSend a re-engagement campaign to the long-inactive, then stop sending to those who don’t respond.
- Segment with tags, send what fitsSending the right content to each segment lifts opens and keeps the list healthy.
Bounces: what they are, and when to worry
A permanently invalid address: a typo, a non-existent domain, or a deleted account. Retrying is pointless—Kitabh suppresses it automatically so it can’t hurt your reputation.
A temporary issue: a full mailbox, a busy server, or an oversized message. It usually delivers on a later attempt, so there’s no need to worry.
How normal is this? A small bounce rate is completely normal on every list (under 2% is healthy). It’s a sudden spike that warrants attention. Best practice: watch the alerts, fix obvious typos, and use double opt-in to reduce bad addresses from the start—suppression and retries we handle for you.
Run your newsletter like a publication, not an ad channel
The steps above launch your newsletter. These principles make it one people genuinely read—and build lasting authority for your brand.
Build it on what only you own
The strongest newsletters are built on data, insight, or expertise no one else has: numbers from inside your field, analysis that can’t be copied, an angle only you can see. When every issue carries something unavailable elsewhere, it becomes inherently shareable.
Own a topic, not a product
Cover a broad topic that matters to a large audience who might one day need you—not a narrow group obsessed with your product’s details. Speak to the sector, its trends, its big questions. A newsletter that owns a topic builds authority, and authority builds business.
Edit it like a real publication
Named writers, a clear point of view, an editorial voice with personality—not cold, soulless brand copy. Give your newsletter an editor and standards, and treat it as a journalistic product that respects the reader’s time and intelligence, not another ad channel.
Make it worth subscribing to even if you sold nothing
The truest test of your newsletter is one question: would readers subscribe and read it ritually even if you sold nothing at all? If its value stands on its own, it becomes a habit—and only then does it serve your business without ever asking.
